Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of digital media literacy on civic engagement among Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) administrators in the Tanjakan Indah Housing Complex, Rajeg District, Tangerang Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study population consisted of 50 Karang Taruna administrators, all of whom were included as respondents through a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected using an online questionnaire administered via Google Forms, comprising 28 items measuring digital media literacy and 11 items measuring civic engagement. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 26 and included validity, reliability, normality, t-test, and coefficient of determination analyses. The results indicated that all questionnaire items met the validity criteria and both variables satisfied the reliability threshold applied in this study. The normality test yielded a significance value of 0.847, indicating that the data met the normality assumption. The t-test results demonstrated that digital media literacy had a positive and statistically significant effect on civic engagement, with a calculated t-value of 5.362, a critical t-value of 2.011. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.375, indicating that digital media literacy accounted for 37.5% of the variance in civic engagement, while the remaining 62.5% was associated with other factors outside the research model. These findings highlight the relevance of digital media literacy in supporting civic engagement within community settings.
